Our Nursing Team
The patient care coordinators are Jolie Lee, R.N., Sheila Rees, R.N., Lisa Block, R.N., BSN, Karen Mathes, R.N., BS, Senta Pritchard, R.N., BS, and Ashley Carter, R.N. All of our nurses work closely with clinic patients to educate them about fertility treatments or surgeries, as well as to coordinate these procedures. They maintain close contact with patients undergoing In-Vitro-Fertilization (IVF) to monitor progress at each step.
State of the art and on the leading edge of reproductive science, Mid-Iowa Fertility's laboratory is exceptional in many areas; the level of training and certification of the staff, quality of laboratory standards and vital lab security.
The laboratory is under the direction of Kepler Johnson, E.L.D. He has been with the practice since it began in July 1993 and has been performing IVF since 1991. Holly Chidley, M.T. has her B.S. from Iowa State University and has been with Mid-Iowa Fertility since 1998. Stacy Rowson graduated with a B.S. degree from Iowa State University. She has been with Mid-Iowa Fertility since 2006 and has been performing IVF since 2000. Kepler and Holly are both certified by A.B.B. in Embryology and Andrology. The lab staff are trained and qualified to perform ICSI, assisted hatching, embryo Cryopreservation, biopsy for PGD and other laboratory procedures. The Lab is C.A.P. and C.L.I.A. accredited.
All egg retrievals and embryo transfers take place in our office.
Monica Rocha-Smith, CPC, manages the Financial Services Department for Mid-Iowa Fertility. She will assist you in clarifying the complicated aspects of health insurance. You may make an appointment with her in person or set up a telephone conference. She is available to assist you with all financial and insurance matters throughout your treatment cycle.
Jennifer Lull, in our billing and insurance department, will assist you with any billing questions you might have for services received in our office. If you have questions regarding your statement or insurance claim questions please contact Jennifer.
Whitney Jaacks, our receptionist, oversees the scheduling and patient inquiries. Whitney has an excellent overall understanding of the operation of our office. She will assist you by directing your questions or inquiries to the proper staff member, gathering your medical history and facilitate in the scheduling of your initial consultation with one of our physicians.
Meet Our Physicians
Mid-Iowa Fertility is led by Dr. Brian Cooper and Dr. Donald Young. Their outstanding academic credentials and clinical experience are backed by a knowledgeable staff of nurses, embryologists and financial coordinator.
Brian C. Cooper, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.
Dr. Cooper attended the University of Michigan receiving his BS degree in Chemistry and Molecular Biology in 1994. He graduated in the top 10 of his class from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1999. After receiving his MD degree, he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa. Dr. Cooper completed his Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Training at the University of Vermont. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Cooper joined Mid-Iowa Fertility in 2006.
Donald C. Young, D.O., F.A.C.O.G.
Dr. Young is the Medical Director of the Mid-Iowa Fertility Clinic. He received his B.A. from Drake University in 1981 and then attended Des Moines University, graduating in 1985. Dr. Young completed his internship at the University of Iowa, followed by his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at David Grant USAF Medical Center, Travis AFB, California, graduating in 1989. After finishing his U.S. Air Force active duty commitment, he completed his Reproductive Endocrinology Infertility fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in 1993. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Young opened Mid-Iowa Fertility in 1993.

Our phone system
Mid-Iowa Fertility utilizes an automated attendant to help direct your call to the specific staff member who can answer your questions. If you know the persons individual extension number to whom you are trying to reach you may dial it at anytime.
Whitney, our receptionist, will gladly schedule your appointment and answer any general questions about our center. However, she will be unable to assist you with any medical questions, as she is not part of our nursing team.
You may choose from the following prompts:
Prompt #1 – To inquire about test results, medical questions or concerns. Our nursing staff triages these messages routinely throughout the day and returns calls as soon possible. If your test results are not complete at the time of your call, the nurse will retain your message until results are available.
Prompt #2 - To schedule an appointment, report a positive surge on your ovulation predictor kit or general questions.
Prompt#3 - To leave a message for one of the physicians to return your call during our normal business hours.
Prompt #4 – To leave a message for our laboratory staff who can assist you in ordering donor sperm, transferring embryos or cryopreservation of sperm.
Prompt #5 – To inquire about general administration including billing and insurance.
